My latest application discovery is SugarSync. This is a push-style service for files and is actually complementary to the MobileMe service where ‘push’ does not apply to files. It also helps that my SugarSync website is not blocked at work whereas MobileMe’s iDisk is!
So what are the benefits? With all of the iPhone restores that I’ve had to do lately I’ve become somewhat reticent to store files on the iPhone. They just end up getting lost on the next restore. Having all the files on the web and then synced to the phone avoids this problem. After a phone restore the files would just sync again. So instead of using other iPhone-based file managers such as Datacase for storing important documents, I could just maintain them in a special folder on the iMac24, knowing that they will be synced to the web and to my phone. This completely eliminates the need to use the iPhone (and other thumb-drives) as a transfer medium for documents, since they will already be accessible from anywhere.
